🚀 Why Exasol? Why Now?
Exasol operates in a regulated European environment and is responsible for protecting its high-performance analytics platform, cloud environments and customer data. As security requirements evolve under ISO 27001, NIS2, DORA, the Cyber Resilience Act and GDPR, strong security operations are central to how we protect that trust.
At the same time, Exasol is moving towards becoming AI-native. In this role, you will help strengthen security operations while supporting the safe adoption of AI tools and agents.
💼 Overview (Role Purpose)
As Security Operations Manager, you will take a hands-on leadership role in strengthening Exasol’s security operations across cloud, infrastructure, endpoint and SaaS environments. You will handle day-to-day security work and lead improvements in incident response, threat detection, vulnerability management, cloud security and AI security.
Working closely with the Team Lead Information Security, you will help deliver the team’s objectives and key results and put Exasol’s information security strategy into practice. You will also support Governance, Risk & Compliance activities, giving you exposure across the wider security function.
In your first 12 months, your focus will be to strengthen day-to-day security operations, improve incident procedures and playbooks, advance risk-based vulnerability remediation, and contribute to better threat detection and cloud and AI security.
🎯 Responsibilities
• Handling day-to-day security operations, including alert triage, investigations, and security tickets.
• Leading incident response as the primary escalation point for complex or high-impact incidents, including classification, regulatory notification and post-incident reporting, and continuously improving incident procedures and playbooks.
• Strengthening threat detection by operating and tuning our SIEM, EDR/XDR and related platforms, onboarding log sources, building detections mapped to MITRE ATT&CK and leading threat intelligence activities.
• Driving vulnerability management and penetration testing, from risk-based prioritization through to verified remediation.
• Enhancing cloud security posture and conducting risk-based security reviews of new tools, integrations and architecture changes.
• Contributing to data loss prevention initiatives (DLP) and other security initiatives from planning to delivery.
• Supporting governance, risk and compliance activities, including security controls, risk assessments, and ISO 27001 audits.
•Helping secure Exasol’s journey to becoming AI-native, including the safe adoption of AI tools and agents, governance of AI usage, and addressing emerging AI-specific threats.
✅ Required Qualifications
At least 7 years of hands-on security operations experience, with a track record of implementing controls, integrations and detections.
Strong practical experience with SIEM and EDR/XDR, including log source onboarding, detection engineering using MITRE ATT&CK, and threat intelligence.
Experience managing vulnerabilities end to end, from identification through verified remediation.
Hands-on experience securing public cloud environments using native cloud security services.
Practical experience handling NIS2 incidents.
Sound security judgement and a strong sense of ownership, with a focus on continuously improving processes.
Ability to stay calm and professional under pressure, openness to feedback and a willingness to learn.
Strong relationship-building skills and clear communication with technical teams and senior stakeholders.
Fluent English.
💡 Preferred Qualifications
Experience with DORA, the Cyber Resilience Act or GDPR reporting.
Direct contact with European regulators.
Interest in AI security and in developing Governance, Risk & Compliance skills, including ISO 27001.
German language skills.
📆 A Day in the Life
You might start by reviewing security alerts and tickets, investigating a potential issue and deciding whether it needs to be escalated. If an incident is complex or high impact, you lead the response, coordinate the investigation and keep relevant stakeholders informed.
Later, you could review vulnerability findings, work with technical teams to prioritise remediation based on risk, and follow up to verify that fixes are in place. You may also tune a detection or onboard a log source to improve visibility across Exasol’s environments.
As new tools, integrations or architecture changes come up, you assess their security risks. You may also contribute to an AI security initiative or prepare evidence for an ISO 27001 audit.
📈 What’s in It for You
Own and improve security operations that protect Exasol’s platform, cloud environments and customer data.
Work across incident response, threat detection, vulnerability management, cloud security, AI security and governance.
